James is a Melbourne-based theatre designer, and graduate of the Master of Design for Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts. He has a keen interest in set, lighting, and costume design, particularly with the scenographic weave of these elements on stage. He is focused on creating dynamic and integrated environments, spaces which engage the performers and audience viscerally and dramaturgically.
James has worked on various productions as a designer, and as a secondment. Design credits include: set design for A Midsummer Night’s Dream (dir. Gary Abrahams), set design for The Tragedy of Coriolanus for Burning House, and lighting designer for The Winter’s Tale (dir. John Kachoyan). Earlier this year he was the secondment to set and costume designer Anna Cordingley, on Melbourne Theatre Company’s production of Jasper Jones. James is a recipient of the Orloff Family Charitable Trust Scholarship 2016.
